SUMEDANG – A team of lecturers from the Television and Film Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom), Universitas Padjadjaran, is set to launch a community service initiative to empower local businesses in Sumedang Regency. Titled “Training on Simple Video Content Production for Business Actors (BUMDES) in Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency,” the project aims to equip village-owned enterprises with essential digital skills for the modern market. The initiative is funded through the “UNPAD BERMANFAAT” (Unpad for Public Benefit) community service grant.

The project was initiated based on the understanding that video content is a powerful and effective strategy for supporting the creative economy, especially for businesses in sub-urban areas. In an increasingly digital world, the ability to produce engaging video content allows entrepreneurs to creatively showcase the uniqueness and value of their products and services. This helps build a strong brand identity and fosters an emotional connection with consumers, setting them apart from competitors. Led by Jimi N. Mahameruaji, M.Si, along with team members Fajar Syudrajat, M.Si, and Pandu Watu Alam, M.Pd, this program directly applies academic expertise to address real-world community needs.

The training is designed to be highly practical and interactive. The program will be delivered in three main sessions: the first session will focus on understanding video content production in the context of business needs, followed by a production simulation, and concluding with a hands-on practice session where participants will produce their own video content. The methodology combines lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises to ensure an engaging and effective learning experience.

This community service program directly contributes to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8): Decent Work and Economic Growth. By providing digital literacy and practical production skills, the initiative empowers local business actors to enhance their competitiveness in the creative economy. The training enables them to leverage digital platforms and social media to market their products effectively, opening up opportunities for business expansion and increased sales in wider geographical markets that were previously difficult to reach. This fosters local economic growth, supports small-scale enterprises, and promotes productive and sustainable economic development at the grassroots level.

Through this initiative, Universitas Padjadjaran reaffirms its commitment to the Tridharma of higher education, where academic knowledge is not confined to campus but is actively used to create a tangible, positive impact on society.
