SUMEDANG – On Thursday, November 2, 2023, the Television and Film (TVF) study program from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, conducted a targeted Community Service Program (PPM) in the Jatigede District of Sumedang, West Java. The program brought together representatives from five local villages—Jemah, Cipicung, Kadujaya, Karedok, and Cijeungjing—for a focused workshop designed to unlock their community’s potential in the digital era.

During the session, the Head of the TVF Program, along with a team of expert lecturers, delivered a comprehensive workshop on strategic content creation. The training provided participants with the essential skills to identify, produce, and distribute compelling digital content that highlights the unique attractions, local products, and cultural heritage of their respective villages. The core objective was to empower these communities to tell their own stories effectively, transforming local potential into tangible promotional assets.

This community empowerment initiative is a powerful, real-world application of Sustainable Development Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. The program went beyond theoretical knowledge, equipping residents with practical digital skills that are crucial for building a sustainable local economy. By learning how to create engaging videos and digital narratives, participants are now better positioned to attract tourism, market their local crafts and products online, and develop new, independent income streams. This grassroots approach fosters inclusive economic growth by empowering the community to become active architects of their own prosperity, creating decent work opportunities right in their own villages. The workshop in Jatigede stands as a prime example of how academic institutions can partner with local communities to drive meaningful development. By investing in digital literacy and storytelling skills, the TVF Fikom Unpad program has planted the seeds for sustainable economic growth, ensuring that the unique potential of Jatigede’s villages can now be shared with the world.
