Milan, Italy – Kayra Afini Putri, a 2020 graduate from the Television and Film Study Program at the Faculty of Communication, Padjadjaran University, has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by having her short film screened at the Duemila30 International Film Festival in Milan, Italy. The festival, held from June 27-30, 2024, is an event dedicated to talented filmmakers worldwide, with a strong focus on the themes of “Sustainable Development” and “Social Inclusion”.

The Duemila30 Festival showcases short films across three main categories: Earth Echoes, Pathway to Wellbeing, and Liberty Rights. Alongside the screenings, the event also features workshops and sharing sessions, providing participants with opportunities to delve into various aspects of filmmaking and exchange experiences with international filmmakers and industry professionals.

Kayra’s final project film, co-created with her colleague M. Dhaffa Attoriq and titled “Sisa Satu” (Left with One), successfully passed the selection process and was featured in the “Earth Echoes” category. The film explores the Indonesian cultural trait of “tidak enakan”—a reluctance to take the last of something to not appear greedy—packaged with environmental themes and presented in a comedy genre. “Sisa Satu” was screened on June 29, 2024, at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema and received a positive reception from the international audience, demonstrating the universal appeal of its story despite the language difference.

This achievement directly aligns with SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. The film’s selection in the “Earth Echoes” category, which focuses on environmental narratives, underscores its contribution to this global goal. By creatively blending a unique cultural phenomenon with the issue of environmental responsibility, “Sisa Satu” offers a fresh perspective on consumption patterns and waste. The use of comedy makes the serious message of sustainability more accessible and engaging for a diverse global audience, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own consumption habits. Furthermore, the success of a university final project on an international stage highlights the role of SDG 4 – Quality Education, showcasing how academic institutions can nurture talent capable of contributing to global conversations on sustainability.

This success was the result of the dedication and hard work of the entire cast and production team of “Sisa Satu,” a production by 3 Pulau Pictures in collaboration with UKM CC Fikom Unpad:
